The City Woven by History

Doku Ankara is an urban memory project that proposes reading Ankara’s thousands-year-old history through textures rather than through a chronological narrative. The project is based on the idea that the city’s past can be understood not only through major structures and events, but also through the traces accumulated in stone, wood, motifs, fabrics, and symbols.
Within this scope, each selected texture represents a historical and symbolic layer of Ankara. The texture featured each month in the calendar, together with the accompanying places, makes visible the traces of different periods of the city and turns Ankara into a layered, readable field of memory.
